I have planted a vine over the terrace, wisteria, iris, honeysuckle and loads of rosa rugosa so the garden is becoming nicely established, but is low maintenance at the moment, with lots of scope.
The house sits at the very edge of the hamlet, so it is not overlooked. The villagers are mostly farmers and  are super friendly when you bump into them. We are always invited to the annual village barbeque and ‘chestnut festival’ where all the villagers gather and feast a couple of times a year.

This is the ideal ‘lock up and leave’ holiday home which is exactly what we have done for 7 years. We have a lovely local English couple who keep the grass mowed and do a clean for us and generally keep maintainance up to scratch. Or it would make a perfect retirement or family home.

Limoges airport is 45 minutes away, with flights on average out of season around £40 return, and the flights are around 1 hour 15 minutes from Stansted and Manchester etc.

Around and about:

The nearest small market town is 10 minutes drive, with all the amenities, and the larger towns of La Souterraine and Geuret are about 15/20 minutes drive. There are lovely lakes with beaches for swimming in the summer months, and the surrounding countryside is breathtaking. Think Devon only 3 times the size! This is the area where the French go for great walking/hiking, biking, kayaking and generally soaking up the peaceful countryside. It is very quiet, so not a good choice if you are looking for clubs and nightlife!

But if you like the idea of rural England about 70 years ago with abundant wildlife, butterflies, peace and the simple life, then this is for you. Next to no crime, the villagers all leave their doors unlocked.

The climate is similar to the UK but with longer much warmer summers and shorter, milder winters. And more importantly it is not so changeable – so you can plan ahead for picnics etc in the summer months.

As this barn was only converted a few years ago, the roof, electrics, cesspit, windows, plumbing etc are all new.
