Situated in the medieval heart of La Souterraine, just 50m from the main square, Maison No9 is very conveniently located for business visitors, tourists and family visitors. Rue Serpente is a road which has very little traffic, giving a surprisingly peaceful ambiance. La Souterraine is a main hub for the region making it an important economic centre. It is also just 10 minutes away from the A20, the main autoroute connecting Britain, Holland and Belgium with the touristic areas of the Dordogne, the Lot, the Pyrenees and Spain, giving massive potential for stopovers, short stays and repeat visits by regular clients on regular trips. The N145 brings us clients looking for a stopover heading east/west. Maison No9 is also the closest accommodation to the church at the end of the days walk or ride for Pilgrims en-route to Santiago

A Maison de Maître with fine proportions built around 1790, by the Marquis de Valady, No9 remained his family home until 2002. The house retains a huge number of original features and exudes an ambiance of tranquil charm. 11 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 8 fireplaces, cast iron radiators, original wooden shutters, original chestnut and oak floors, original granite and tiled floors, chestnut panelling, original plaster friezes and mouldings, etc… The barn includes a cobbled floor and the original tack room, as well as 6 garages and masses of storage/workshop space. At the end of the barn is the Coachman’s cottage – ripe for renovation – if you need more space! The garden is enclosed by the stone wall that protected the village during the 14th century, it is south-west racing. 350 square metres – big enough to enjoy, but not a burden, with a terrace attached to the back of the house that catches the sun well into the evening. An ideal venue for dinner to be taken or served.

La Souterraine is a thriving hub, offering four hotels and another B&B within walking distance of the centre. All are competition, but none have the combination of charm, ambience and location that has given No9 an increase in earnings every year since it’s creation in 2006.

We started Maison No9 to allow us to have control over our working year so that we can put our family first. With family still our No1 priority, we turn a lot of potential business away and restrict the marketing of Maison No9. There is a lot that could be done to expand the turnover by ‘filling the gaps’, without modifying the building. If you still need more, the barn has CU, allowing you to turn it into further accommodation.

9 Rue Serpente offers great flexibility. We use the whole house and have our private space on the first floor, giving us 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, but you could take over more space, or even convert the attic!
